Ready to turn up your summer 2024 workouts!

Ready to turn up the heat on your summer workouts? We've got your back with these seven killer tips to keep your fitness mojo fired up all season long. From setting goals to finding your passion, we've got everything you need to crush your fitness goals and make this summer your fittest one yet. So grab a coffee or a water (I personally choose coffee), kick back, and let's dive in. It’s time to work!

"You are in danger of living a life so comfortable and soft that you will die without ever realizing your true potential."-David Goggins

1. Set Goals That Get You Pumped

Let's kick things off with some goal-setting magic! Whether you're dreaming of shedding pounds, sculpting those abs, or just feeling healthier overall, setting clear, kick-ass goals is the key to success. Make 'em specific, make 'em achievable, and most importantly, make 'em exciting! Reaching goals is about baby steps so break 'em down into bite-sized chunks, and watch the magic happen as you smash each one outta the park.

Additional Tip: Break Down Long-Term Goals

Break down your long-term goals into smaller, actionable steps. For example, if your goal is to run a marathon by the end of summer, start by committing to run a certain distance each week, gradually increasing your mileage as you build endurance.

Bonus Tip: Reward Yourself Along the Way

Don't forget to celebrate your progress! Set up a reward system for reaching milestones along your fitness journey. Treat yourself to a new workout outfit, a massage, or a guilt-free cheat meal (I like to choose cheat meals on Saturdays) when you hit those goals.

2. Find Your Fitness Passion

Whoever said workouts had to be a snoozefest clearly hasn't found their fitness jam yet. Whether you're into Zumba, HIIT, or getting your downward dog on in yoga class, there's a workout out there with your name on it. So ditch the boring routines and get out there to find what gets your heart pumping and your booty shaking. Trust us, once you find your fitness soulmate, you'll never look back.

Additional Tip: Try New Activities Regularly

Keep things exciting by trying out new fitness activities regularly. Sign up for a dance class, try rock climbing, or take a surfing lesson. When I first moved to California, I took ONE surfing lesson and it did wonders! Exploring different types of exercise not only keeps things interesting but also challenges your body in new ways.

Bonus Tip: Set Fun Challenges for Yourself

Challenge yourself to try something new or push your limits. Whether it's mastering a new yoga pose, increasing your max weight in the gym, or completing a local obstacle course race, setting fun challenges keeps your workouts fresh and exciting.

3. Mix It Up Like a Boss

Variety is the spice of life, baby! Don't get stuck in a rut doing the same old workout day in, day out. Mix it up, switch it up, and keep things fresh and funky. From killer cardio to strength training to shaking your groove thang on the dance floor, there's a whole world of fitness fun waiting for you to explore. So why settle for boring when you can be fabulous?

Additional Tip: Cross-Train Regularly

Incorporate cross-training into your routine to work different muscle groups and prevent overuse injuries. Mix cardio, strength, flexibility, and balance exercises to create a well-rounded fitness program. Not only does cross-training improve overall fitness, but it also keeps boredom at bay.

Bonus Tip: Embrace Outdoor Workouts

Take advantage of the summer weather by taking your workouts outdoors. Go for a run in the park, do bodyweight exercises at the beach, or take a hike in the mountains. Get out into the ocean or local lake and swim! (our personal fave) Outdoor workouts not only provide a change of scenery but also offer fresh air and Vitamin D from the sun.

4. Put Your Workouts on the Calendar

Listen up, superstar: your workouts are non-negotiable appointments with yourself. So grab that calendar, pencil in your sweat seshes, and treat 'em like the VIP events they are. Whether you're a morning warrior, a lunchtime legend, or a nighttime ninja, find a workout schedule that works for you, and stick to it like glue. Your body will thank you for it, we promise.

Always remember, consistency is key."-The Rock

Additional Tip: Schedule Rest Days

Don't forget to schedule rest days into your fitness routine. Rest and recovery are essential for muscle repair and growth, as well as preventing burnout and overtraining. Listen to your body and give yourself permission to rest when needed.

Bonus Tip: Prepare for Your Workouts in Advance

Set yourself up for success by preparing for your workouts in advance. Lay out your workout clothes the night before, pack your gym bag with essentials, and have a pre-workout snack ready to go. Removing obstacles and making it as easy as possible to get started increases the likelihood of sticking to your routine.

5. Keep Tabs on Your Progress

Who needs a cheer squad when you've got progress tracking on your side? Whether you're logging your workouts in a fancy fitness app or scribbling them down in a good old-fashioned journal, keeping tabs on your progress is a game-changer. I personally use a journal, and log weight loss every morning! Celebrate those wins, big or small, and watch in awe as those gains stack up faster than you can say "sweat, smile, repeat."

Additional Tip: Use Technology to Your Advantage

Take advantage of technology to track your progress and stay motivated. Use fitness apps to log your workouts, track your nutrition, and monitor your progress over time. Many apps also offer features like workout reminders, personalized training plans, and social sharing to keep you accountable and motivated.

Bonus Tip: Take Progress Photos

In addition to tracking metrics like weight, measurements, and performance, consider taking progress photos to visually document your fitness journey. Seeing physical changes in your body can be incredibly motivating and help you stay committed to your goals.

6. Surround Yourself with Fitness Fanatics

I can’t stress how important this is! We are who we surround ourselves with, so! surround yourself with like-minded peeps who lift you up, cheer you on, and keep you accountable. Whether it's joining a fitness class, roping in a workout buddy, or rallying your squad for a weekend hike, having a crew of fitness friends by your side makes the journey way more fun (and way less sweaty, promise).

I personally attend Dave Fisher’s Powerhouse gym in Torrance, California. This gym is full of passionate members. Being around these people every day is truly inspiring. Checking your phone and talking is sort of a no no. We stay focused.

If you're unable to find local fitness buddies, consider joining online communities and forums dedicated to fitness and wellness. Connecting with others who share similar goals and interests provides support, motivation, and accountability, even if you're miles apart.

Bonus Tip: Participate in Group Challenges

Challenge yourself and your fitness pals by participating in group challenges or events. Whether it's a virtual race, a step challenge, or a fitness competition, the camaraderie and friendly competition can boost motivation and keep you on track towards your goals.

7. Go Easy on Yourself, Champ

Last but not least, cut yourself some slack, champ! Fitness journeys aren't always rainbows and unicorns, and that's totally okay. Embrace the ups, learn from the downs, and remember that results will come if you stay consistent over time. Never underestimate the power of time. Treat yourself with the same love and kindness you'd give your BFF, and watch as your fitness journey becomes a whole lot more enjoyable (and a whole lot less stressful).

Additional Tip: Practice Self-Compassion

Be kind to yourself on your fitness journey and practice self-compassion. Accept that progress may not always be linear, and setbacks are a natural part of the process. Instead of beating yourself up over perceived failures, focus on what you've accomplished and how far you've come.

“Self-compassion is simply giving the same kindness to ourselves that we would give to others.” — Christopher Germer

Bonus Tip: Focus on Non-Scale Victories

Shift your focus from the scale to non-scale victories to measure success. Celebrate improvements in strength, endurance, flexibility, energy levels, mood, and overall well-being. Recognizing and appreciating these achievements reinforces positive behaviors and motivates continued progress.

Wrapping It Up

And there you have it, folks: a comprehensive guide to keeping your summer workouts going strong! Whether you're smashing goals, finding your passion, mixing it up like a boss, or surrounding yourself with a squad of fitness fanatics, staying motivated has never been more fun (or more fabulous). So grab those sneakers, hit the gym, the park, the beach, and get ready to slay your fitness goals like the badass you are. You've got this! 🚀
